Der Balladentext stammt von dem Dichter Gottfried August Bürger (1747-1794), vertont wurde es durch den Stuttgarter Komponisten Johann Rudolf Zumsteg (1760-1802). Der Komponist wird auf dem Titelblatt des Stücks abgekürzt mit "J.B. Zumsteg", rechts unten auf dem Titelblatt ist"Lehmann" notiert, möglicherweise ein einstiger Besitzer. Mit deutlichen Alters-und Gebrauchsspuren, Stockflecken, fleckig, Einrisse, Knicke, Verfärbung.
