Adressiert ist der Brief an Vernon Russell-Smith, einen Landschaftsgärtner aus London, geb. wohl 1924, seinerzeit wohnhaft in der Prices Gate in London. In dem Brief äußert Charles seine Idee, einen Obstgarten mit Apfelbäumen auf dem Feld hinter dem Küchengarten anzulegen. Er fragt sich aber auch, ob es nicht zu viele Bäume für das Budget wären. Schließlich schlägt er vor, die Gegend gemeinsam mit dem Adressaten einmal anzusehen. Der Brief ist mittig gefalten. Die Tinte beim Namenszug "Charles" ist etwas verwischt.

The letter is addressed to Vernon Russell-Smith, a landscape gardener from London, probably born in 1924 and living at Prices Gate in London at the time. In the letter, Charles expressed his idea of planting an orchard with apple trees in the field behind the kitchen garden. But he also wonders if it wouldn't be too many trees for the budget. Finally, he suggests taking a look at the area with the addressee. The letter is folded in the middle. The ink on the signature "Charles" is a little smudged.
